Prime Minister Gordon Brown asked Libya's Colonel Gaddafi to encourage his country to "act with sensitivity" in its welcome for the returning Lockerbie bomber, according to the BBC.

The legal rights or wrongs of this affair are moot, I know, but it's fair to say the undeniable result - joyous, cheering throngs waving Scottish flags at a man convicted of murdering 270 people - would indicate the entry of yet another tick in the "Gordon is a moron" box.

Words not likely to be heard over sparse supper bowls of oats this evening: "That went well."
