I think Brown and the Labour party will regret the coronation process after Blair's departure.
Brown should have stood for the Deputy Leadership after the 1992 election, that would have put him in an ideal position to take over after Smith died; but Brown bottled it. If he was so convinced of his case after Smith died, he should have stood agaist Blair.

I think Littlejohn's being harsh but fair. And considering Paul Dacre [the Mail editor] is supposedly a mate of Brown's, is rather a brave piece of publishing, even for the nasty Mail.

I had forgotten about Paul Dacre being a mate of Brown's. Good point, Juzzzy.
I think that Brown has an issue with a lack of a narrative, which is important when trying to convince the public that there is something more to a politician than simply being a politician. Denis Healey referred to it as Hinterland - Blair had it, Brown doesn't. Cameron has it, Hague didn't.

Little-John is not only harsh, he is biased and lacks any, not even the smallest trace of sensibility.
Btw, it is no special bravery to be biased and harsh towards a (supposed) friend/mate.

Oh, he's certainly biased. And he's certainly harsh. But I'm afraid his view of Brown as a politician - and it was Brown himself who brought his daughter into the arena - rings true to a lot of people, me included.
