It's been years - and years - since I read it, but I remember loving the book, even though I can barely remember the storyline other than the fact he lived in the dump.

According to the Wiki page, fact fans, "Stig" means path - or in a person, pathfinder - in Sordid Swedish and Filthy Danish.
