Oh completely agree that they were way f***ing over-zealous.
My only (devils advocate) point is ... his tax return .. bet he claims that vehicle as a business expense and therefore, yes, it can be classed as a work vehicle and unless he can find some way of proving that he never has help (which given his business) might contravene Health & Safety lawas ( don't let them equally over-zealous ones find out).

Guess what I find funny. My car is a convertable, if I use it to claim work milage (which I do) I cannot smoke if I ever foresee taking a co-worker with me (which happens). Now, here is the funny bit - if the top is down I can smoke my head off ... even if we are sat at a standstill and the poor passenger gets the breeze right in their face... get some of that smoke you non-smoking wuss !!!
Now ... they were never able to prove I charge.

Wasn't Mr Williams van a work van though? (regardless of whether he owned it or not)
Just that the info sheet I got sent said that he is a painter (?) and that it was his work van. Admittedly it was his own and he was only going to buy teabags for the wife but he would still be using same said van to transport employees in to jobs .... as those in blue say ... the law is the law.
