What do you bet the idiot behind this never lived in Leeds in the 70s?
Did you watch the documentary last night? There's doubts over whether he even was schizophrenic in the first place. Overlooked evidence etc.

It's the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and has nothing to do with the EU. It happens to have something to do with the UK thanks to a piece of legislation called the Human Rights Act, which was passed in the first year of the Labour government.
Nevertheless, I think it is morally questionable to seek to help that man. Such behaviour suggests that the lawyer is out for publicity, accepting such a case. For solicitors there is no cab rank rule, remember.
Not all lawyers are bad, you might even know one or two.

You are, of course, absolutely right on both points.
I happen to know one lawyer who I have an enormous amount of time for. But he happens not to run around gleefully seeking loopholes in order to make a name for himself, and instead, in between rather amusing blog posts, gets on with his job.
