Ten Years Ago Today...

by Juzzzy @ Thursday, May. 03, 2007 - 12:44:44 pm

May 3, 2007

...I woke, bleary eyed, in a gorgeous flat in - of all places - Crouch End. Next to me was quite a cute girl, who was as groggy as me, and in an equal state of undress.

"Mornin'" I said.

"Mornin'" she said back.

"Hmm. This is going to be awkward at the office, isn't it?"

"Oh Christ," she says, groaning. "Election victory... big party... snogging on the dance floor..."

"Yep. Pretty much all that..."

"Oh, sod them," she said, and then laughed. "New Labour, new shag!"

And wasn't she right, too?

Because despite the promise of a new dawn, we've pretty much spent the last ten years being royally fucked, haven't we?

Last year I remember exhorting the need to vote.

This year, I'm opting for None Of The Above.

Labour no longer has a principle or an ideology in its pocket - something the increasingly bizarre and desperate Tories are only too eager to emulate. Great politics, eh?

The Liberal Democrats are toothless wimps, yapping like untrained, irritating puppies who will eventually go to the dog's home - when they're not being hovered over by rent boys with upset stomachs, that is.

UKIP are just passe and might as well give up. It ain't happening, boys and girls.

The BNP are a joke. A dangerous, ugly joke, admittedly, but a joke nonetheless.

And now that everyone else has nicked their ideas, the Green Party are floundering, too.

None Of The Above?

Why not?

It's true that politics is showbiz for ugly people, and there is nothing more these people are afraid of than being ignored.

So I say ignore them.

Because as my mum always used to say about wasps: If you ignore them, they'll go away.

Thanks for sharing that lovely story with us! LOL

Your mum is right though although I could not ignore it when my child had a great big wasp on him last week! :-/

I don't vote. I know I have the right to so I should (blah blah) but I have no belief or confidence in any of them. It's more of a waste to vote for one of them not to at all, in my humble opinion.

GAH!! This annoys me!

People FOUGHT for us to vote! This whole apathy infuriates me "they're all the same".........How the hell do you KNOW unless they get into power?!!

And breathe.

A non vote is as much of a statement of intent as an actual vote.

Why opt for something because "it'll do"?

Especially if you take the trouble to toddle down to the polling station and "constructively" spoil a paper.

You are registered to vote?

They stopped counting the spoiled papers and announcing the results with the rest :(

Utter bastards. That was the one way of foiling their 'the british population are too lazy to vote' bollocks

I don't think it is as much of a statement.

It's laziness and not bothering to be optimistic and give others a chance.

If everyone voted, things could be very different.

It would only work if everyone decided not to put pen to paper and that will never happen.

Yes, that's true. But if I don't like any of the choices, that doesn't make me bad, just pragmatic.

you could use your vote in a tactical way.. or you could user your vote and tick the abstain box, the count then goes to the official statistics of who has voted or not.

apathy is the worst decease know to mankind.

I'm not being apathetic. I'm not saying "I can't be arsed" and if I was, I'd agree with you and the Bellster.

It's (not really but bear with me) like being offered the "choice" to jump off or a cliff or under a train, isn't it?

"No thanks!"

Judging from the number of cars parked outside our local polling station 20 minutes ago (zero), the Don't Blame Me I Didn't Vote Party is heading for a record result.

Hurrah!

Vote for me!
